Our occupational therapists are highly trained health professionals in the field of myofascial pain and dysfunction. They have extensive knowledge in anatomy, physiology and biomechanics and use a variety of hands on techniques to release tight muscles and fascia, break down fibrous adhesions, and re-train the body to use muscles correctly.
Myotherapy Treatment Process
An initial consultation will involve a thorough review of your condition including medical history, medications, aggravating factors and lifestyle. Please bring any previous scans or diagnostic tests relating to your symptoms.
Your therapist will then examine the affected areas and assess whether the symptoms are likely to be a result myofascial dysfunction. If not, they will refer you to other health care professionals as necessary.
The treatment your occupational therapist applies will depend on the results of the assessment and may include myofascial release, passive ranging, trigger point therapy, advanced stretching, hot/cold therapy and many others.
You will be given advice on how to best manage your condition at home including stretching and strengthening exercises, postural re-training, stress and pain management techniques and ergonomic recommendations as needed.
